Hi, I am very new to solo RPG and this was so much fun. I have tried to escape with 2 characters now but neither have ended well! I started with Abby the barista who nearly died to a rabid dog on her first combat encounter in Harlem (from 11 to 1 HP) and then finally the Zombie snow leopard was just too strong for her in Central Park.  Then I had Eddie the news vendor who sadly died to a desperate survivor over a ration because he just kept missing the target with his pistol!

I did have one question though, in Harlen event 6 it says that you gain medical papers but they are not listed in the items table so I was not sure what I was supposed to use them for. Can you clarify please?

I am looking forward to trying to escape New York again with my next character very soon. Thanks for developing this game.

Hi, thanks for letting me know about your NYZ playthroughs, it was cool to hear about your unlucky characters! Truth be told, the game is probably a little too hard to beat, but I'm glad you enjoyed it none-the-less!

Yup - the medical papers - they are mentioned in an event in the tunnel location later (they can help you out of a tricky situation). Probably they need some clarification somewhere, but space was pretty tight!

Thanks for the clarification. Ahh I see, I havn't got close to the tunnel yet and I was trying not to spoil things by reading ahead! I will just keep these things in my inventory in the future assuming that they may come in handy later on :)

Hi, is a passing result equal to or higher than the TN (target number?), or only higher than the TN?

Hi there, you have to roll equal to OR greater than the TN in order to pass. Here's an excerpt from the 'Facing a challenge' section of the rules:

To pass a test, you will have to roll equal to or greater than a target number (TN) on a D20, having added on a given trait.

Okay, thank you. No idea how I missed that, sorry!

No problem, easily done! Hope you're enjoying the game!

I had the pleasure to test this game, so my review may be slightly biased, it’s really fun and easy to get into. As a horror fan, I was hooked immediately. The challenging and quick gameplay enhances replay value, allowing for speed runs or a more strategic approach to gathering supplies, though staying in one location too long increases danger.  Personally, I prefer to explore each location 2-3 times before progressing to the next, as it seems like the best way to fully engage with the game.

The game offers a solid amount of content for its size, but it would be great to see a larger or expanded version in the future, featuring more events, choices, and items to collect. This could be similar to how Headcheese's Into the Zone evolved into Escape the Zone.

Thanks Cody, your playtesting input was invaluable, not only in getting NYZ into a fit state for public consumption, but also in giving me ideas for a future expanded version! As you say, Escape The Zone clearly shows how this can be done and the amount of material I was forced to leave out of NYZ clearly shows me it would be worth putting together!

Challenging. Well organized. Quick, deadly and fun.

Glad you enjoyed it! Challenging is the word :D

A brutal survival dice roller both fun and challenging.

Thanks for the kind words - I hope you manage to get out of New York alive!
