Bad news! You’re in Manhattan and it’s overrun with zombies!

You’ve been laying low, but now it’s time to leave your sanctuary and make a break for the safety of the New Jersey Refugee Camp! It’s been weeks since the outbreak occurred; the city streets aren’t getting any safer – more New Yorkers are getting turned every day; the number of zombies is increasing, and the army are moving in.

To get out alive, you must make it out of Harlem, through Central Park, Midtown and finally survive the Lincoln Tunnel.  Good luck - you’re going to need it!

  • A main tri-fold two-sided game sheet
  • A character sheet to track your health, stats and items
  • A low-ink version of the main sheet

Hi, is a passing result equal to or higher than the TN (target number?), or only higher than the TN?

Hi there, you have to roll equal to OR greater than the TN in order to pass. Here's an excerpt from the 'Facing a challenge' section of the rules:

To pass a test, you will have to roll equal to or greater than a target number (TN) on a D20, having added on a given trait.

Okay, thank you. No idea how I missed that, sorry!

No problem, easily done! Hope you're enjoying the game!

I had the pleasure to test this game, so my review may be slightly biased, it’s really fun and easy to get into. As a horror fan, I was hooked immediately. The challenging and quick gameplay enhances replay value, allowing for speed runs or a more strategic approach to gathering supplies, though staying in one location too long increases danger.  Personally, I prefer to explore each location 2-3 times before progressing to the next, as it seems like the best way to fully engage with the game.

The game offers a solid amount of content for its size, but it would be great to see a larger or expanded version in the future, featuring more events, choices, and items to collect. This could be similar to how Headcheese's Into the Zone evolved into Escape the Zone.

Thanks Cody, your playtesting input was invaluable, not only in getting NYZ into a fit state for public consumption, but also in giving me ideas for a future expanded version! As you say, Escape The Zone clearly shows how this can be done and the amount of material I was forced to leave out of NYZ clearly shows me it would be worth putting together!
